‘MasterChef’ season 6, episode 11 review: Did you see these Pressure Test results coming?
Let’s start by giving “MasterChef” at least a little bit of praise for Wednesday night’s episode. Why? They at least tried to do something to shake up their edit a little bit. We’ve been right more or less on the last two eliminations just based on screen time, so tonight we’re happy that Olivia got the save from Katrina … mostly because we thought she was done the moment that Hetal’s team lost the Team Challenge and entered the Pressure Test.
We’re not going to spend that much time on the Team Challenge, other than that cowboys are fun! We’ve seen this sort of challenge so many times before, so it’s not as compelling as it was a couple of years ago.
Strangely, we found the tart-based Pressure Test a little more entertaining. Maybe part of that was because this was clearly the most competitive one of the entire season. Christopher, Shelly, Hetal, and Stephen all faced off … and all did a pretty good job. So good, in fact, that there was no way to differentiate who was the best.
From a production point of view, we don’t really think that there is some mass conspiracy where this non-elimination was planned tonight. Just as there are some double-eliminations that are probably fluid through the season, there’s probably also a non-elimination that is, as well, for certain rounds depending on the numbers. This was a pretty good spot to use it. We thought that we were about to lose Christopher, but despite some of his occasional struggles we feel almost like he’s the Cutter of this season. He was humbled, and is now getting a chance to improve. Grade: B.
