‘Game of Thrones’ season 6: Lena Headey on Cersei’s emotional state

Game of Thrones -Game of Thrones” season 6 is still a long time away from airing. Production is just now getting started in Belfast, and given how little is known about it and the paparazzi presence that is there already to try and spoil it, we feel for most of that cast and crew already.

One of the most interesting stories moving forward on the show is certainly that of Cersei Lannister. While she is far from the most likable person ever presented to us on-camera for the series, it is easier to have some semblance of sympathy for her given what we saw transpire with her with the Walk of Atonement at the end of season 5. Nobody deserves what she was put through, even if she has done many a terrible thing. This could be the foundation for a new version of the character, and one who could be more intent on revenge than even before. This is at least something that recent Emmy nominee Lena Headey suggests to the Wall Street Journal in a new interview:

“I don’t think she’s incredibly happy. [laughs] I don’t think she likes very many people, even less than before, if that’s even possible. She’s made more enemies … I think she’s in a state of pure vengeance, but I don’t think it’s going to be straightforward because it’s her. It is exciting. If I don’t die.”

We certainly do hope that Cersei makes it at least through one more full season; even if you dislike the character, what would King’s Landing be without her right now? She’s a great rival to House Tyrell, and many of the other interesting characters from the region are scattered elsewhere. Varys, for example, is in Meereen, and who knows whether or not Jaime will make it back there after what happened to Myrcella?
