‘Hell on Wheels’ season 5 video: Anson Mount, cast, producers tease Central Pacific story
Thanks to San Diego Comic-Con today is turning out to be a busy one in terms of news, and we also have something unrelated to the convention that should please many “Hell on Wheels” fans: An extended look (via AMC) at the fifth and final season of the show.
AMC released this week a lengthy video detailing some of the story that lies ahead for Cullen Bohannon in season 5, as he joins the Central Pacific in a further effort to finish the railroad, while at the same time still attempting to find his wife and child along the way. Being a stranger in a strange land for Cullen presents many struggles. He is not able to communicate with many of the Chinese workers unless working with such people as new character Tao (Tzi Ma); also, the railroad construction is taking place in the mountains, and the temperature and terrain will each leave a mark.
This video features a variety of short interviews with not only star / producer Anson Mount, but also Christopher Heyerdahl (whose character of The Swede is returning in dramatic fashion), new series regular Tim Guinee (Collis Huntington), and then some other newcomers such as Byron Mann (Chang, who leads the Chinese workforce on the Central Pacific). You also hear from many executive producers including John Wirth, who we interviewed recently for the site.
This video is valuable in many different ways: It’s a chance to see some of the cast and crew again, it’s a refresher on the story, and it is also a primer for the Central Pacific and where we are ultimately heading here in Utah with the Golden Spike and the eventually merging with the Union Pacific.
In just one week’s time on July 18 the new season will premiere at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time on AMC. If you have missed recent stories on the subject of the show, seven will air this summer, while the final seven will air in 2016. We plan to be here every step of the way.
