‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 spoilers: Director confirms Stannis Baratheon’s fate

Stannis -Everyone wants to create their own theories about what happens to “Game of Thrones” characters. The fact that there are still stories out there about whether or not Kit Harington has cut his hair recently is proof of that.

It is inevitable that the fate of Jon Snow is going to take center stage leading up to season 6. After all, remember here that he is an enormously popular character, and George R.R. Martin’s tendency to find a way to revive people who were at one point a part of the show. However, there has also been a smaller undercurrent of people who have been immensely curious on the fate of Stannis Baratheon, and whether or not he lives to tell the tale of what happened to him at Winterfell. Our prevailing feeling has been that he died, given that we saw Brienne swing her sword and it is not like there were many distractions getting in the way there.

As it turns out, this is what “Mother’s Mercy” directed David Nutter echoed to Entertainment Weekly while at San Diego Comic-Con today:

“From the very beginning, and [through] the script process, that was the intent — he’s dead.”

Do we want to see Jon back? Definitely, but it feels like this is the right way for Stannis to go. There really was not any other thing that you could do with this guy’s story given everything that he has done, and with that in mind, why try to milk it? Death seems to be the right punishment for his follies and the terrible sacrifice of Shireen.
