‘Of Kings and Prophets’ to shoot new pilot with ‘Longmire,’ ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ director

Of Kings -ABC’s “Of Kings and Prophets” has been one of the more interesting new series to watch this summer. It was originally placed on the fall schedule, but later moved back to midseason with a reduced episode order following the decision to redo much of the early footage for the show. Given that this is the network’s attempt most likely to capture some of the success of a “Game of Thrones” or some of the other epic series that are out there at the moment, they obviously want it to be a major success story.

With that in mind, don’t be too surprised now by the news that they have brought in a new man in Michael Offer to help steer the ship of a new pilot. Per a report from Deadline, Offer is coming in to film an entirely new episode of the show, versus just some reshoots on an original pilot. He’s also someone with experience of getting hit shows off to a good start, as he directed the pilot episode of “How to Get Away with Murder.” Fans of “Longmire” will know Offer for directing four episodes of it during its A&E days, including the brilliant “Ashes to Ashes.”

We do want to hold out hope that “Of Kings and Prophets” can turn into something fantastic, and not as hokey as the promotional art above makes it seem. ABC is in need of a big hit other than something from Shonda Rhimes at this point. “Secrets & Lies” did prove itself to be a decent success at midseason, so there is a chance that this can be, as well.

Stay tuned, as we’ll have some other news when it comes to this show’s production as time passes. You can watch the original trailer below, with a reminder that the date at the end of it is no longer accurate.
