‘Gotham’ season 2: How the Penguin will make his presence felt at San Diego Comic-Con

Gotham -There have been a couple of new things that we’re tracking this year in preparation for San Diego Comic-Con, and one of the most interesting things we’re seeing is just how certain networks are choosing to market themselves. HBO and AMC have come up with fan experiences for “Game of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead,” while FX is giving away collectible cards featuring many of their shows.

Given that Fox and FX have the same parent company, it shouldn’t be shock that someone is thinking outside of the box, as well, when it comes to “Gotham.” As a matter of fact, they may be turning the show into a game of “Where’s Waldo?” featuring none other than The Penguin. We caught wind of a press release today that talked a little bit about what the show has planned; if this isn’t “Where’s Waldo?,” then it definitely sounds like the sort of thing that we would see on “The Amazing Race” as a task:

“Oswald Cobblepot aka “The Penguin” has lookalikes everywhere, including San Diego Comic-Con. Keep an eye out for a mass Penguin breakout as Oswald Cobblepot look-a-likes waddle their way through the streets of downtown San Diego on Friday and Saturday, passing out free pairs of Oswald’s signature sunglasses. Follow @Gotham to track where the Penguins are stationed throughout the weekend and you might even meet The Penguin himself (aka Robin Lord Taylor). Use #Gotham to join the conversation.”

We already have this vision in our head of people randomly bumping into Robin while dressed as Oswald out in front of some packed burrito restaurant in the Gaslamp District … not entirely sure it’s going to work like that, but okay.

Ultimately, we do feel like this is a pretty interesting marketing move by Fox, and it’s ultimately easy to like it! We can imagine these poor Penguins getting mobbed from free stuff, but at least they are creating a game component rather than just giving out swag in some sort of boring manner.
