‘Longmire’ season 4 debate: When do you want series to premiere on Netflix?

Big news -While there may not be too much news breaking at the moment when it comes to “Longmire,” we thought that this Fourth of July weekend would be a great time to ponder over one key burning question: When should the show premiere? We imagine that Netflix will make an announcement at some point over the next few weeks, and we’ve laid out a guide of some of the likely dates.

Since we’ve heard that the show is returning this fall, we’ve therefore written off both July and August as possibilities. Also, it finished filming at some point earlier this week, so it needs some time in post-production.

September – The clear advantage here is that if you launch the show early enough in the month, you can avoid major competition from some of the major networks. That gives fans a little more time to binge. However, at the same time you have to wonder whether or not the show will be ready (it just wrapped filming) in time for this launch date, and it will make it somewhat easy to forget among casual fans if it starts around the same time as the networks’ fall season.

October – One advantage? If you wait until around the second or third week, some of the buzz around the fall season will be over, and you can settle in a little bit and have some of the spotlight to yourselves. Sure, there are other distractions such as Halloween, but there is plenty of time for the show to get the attention it deserves.

November – This is a very busy time (at least early in the month) when it comes to programming, and that could mean that “Longmire” could have to compete against a ton of shows piling up on DVR machines out there. Yet, this could be a great premiere month given that there are some colder temperatures settling in, more people coming inside, and also a Thanksgiving week without much in the way of new shows near the end.

December – This seems fairly unlikely. We get the sense that Netflix wants it out in the fall, and most of the focus in December is going to be on the holidays.
