‘Hannibal’ season 3, episode 5 preview: Jack Crawford says goodbye

Hannibal -It should not be a surprise that “Hannibal” is going into some deep emotional places on Thursday night’s new episode … and of course Jack Crawford is at the center of them at the moment. This is a man who was haunted by Bella’s condition long before she died. He knew the inevitable was coming, and what may have made it all the harder was knowing that there was nothing that he could do about it.

Therefore, he likely had some time to plan out just how he wanted to say goodbye to her. Letting her ashes go in the city in which the two first met may be his way of finally doing that, and starting to let go. We wonder how much regret lies within his heart in these moments, and if he regrets at all casting so much focus on his job and his duties as a vessel of justice that he forgot to be one of love from time to time.

One other part of Jack’s story that you have to remember is his occupational status at the moment. He seems less concerned with the idea of finding Hannibal Lecter and enacting some sort of justice for all of the crimes that he has committed. At this point, more of his investment seems to be in his attempt to save Will Graham’s soul … if Will of course wants to even save himself.

To sum all of this up, there is really one thing that we should say more than anything else: We fear for Jack. He is not in a good place emotionally right now, and Hannibal definitely has motivation to want him dead and remembered in a far less moving fashion than what Bella received.
