Ratings: ‘Zoo’ premiere disappoints; ‘America’s Got Talent,’ FIFA Women’s World Cup dominate

CBS -We never expected “Zoo” to suddenly become much of a breakout hit. We don’t think the James Patterson work is necessarily that well-known, and to go along with that there really was not that great of a promotional campaign. CBS aired it as a part of a lineup that was entirely repeats other than this, so we really do not know who actually thought that this was going to become some sort of hit.

Yet, someone did, and the show started off with just a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic. We assume that the network is going to tout its 8 million viewers as some sort of tremendous achievement, but is it really? We’re not exactly going to say that just yet.

While we are somewhat down on the show’s premiere numbers, to us still there is not that much of a reason to think that the show is not going to be renewed for a second season. As we previously reported, Netflix is paying a hefty amount of money for every episode of the show, so this will help to supplement any ratings woes that it may have throughout the first season.

As for some other news that has come out from last night, “America’s Got Talent” drew a 2.4 rating in the demo for its last new episode Tuesday night, while the FIFA Women’s World Cup was the overall winner with a 3.3. It is exciting in a way to see a soccer sporting event drawing that much attention, especially since women’s athletics are sometimes under-appreciated by primetime audiences.

We’ll keep track of the “Zoo” ratings as they come out throughout the season, so be sure to stay tuned to get even more updates when it comes to that.
