‘Big Brother 17’ debate: Should this be last season before another ‘All-Stars’?

Big Brother -When will the next “Big Brother: All-Stars” take place? It’s a question we see and hear about often, and it is one that executive producer Allison Grodner has talked about in recent years. Her past comments about it have been fairly simple: She has wanted to wait on it for a little while, feeling as though they wanted to build up a pool of worthy candidates before doing a season of just returning players.

We do think that there may be something else to this, as well: CBS for a time seemed to be getting out of the returning-player business. Before “Survivor: Second Chance” came up, we had three straight seasons of all newbies, and it felt like some of this was born out of some seasons with just a few returning players being not that great. “Survivor: Blood vs. Water” is the only season post-“Heroes vs. Villains” with returning players we consider to be particularly great. While “Big Brother 14” was excellent thanks mostly to Dan Gheesling, season 13 felt too slated in favorite of some of preexisting relations that were there among the pairs.

Now, the time seems to be about right for “Big Brother” to do this again. We know that there will be at least some newbies on the show this summer per a recent promo, but we personally feel like doing all new players would be a great move at this point. If this happens and you can get at least two or three really good All-Star candidates, then you’ve got a really great mix of people to play again.

Let’s just throw out some names really quick: Donny Thompson, Zach Rance, Nicole Franzel, Amanda Zuckerman, Elissa Slater, Ian Terry, Frank Eudy, Shelly Moore, Dominic Briones, and Matt Hoffman. These are all people who should be slam dunks to come back if they are interested just from the past five seasons alone. Then, you’ve got people like Annie, Brian, Kara, Nick, Devin, and Cassi, who were sent home early and aren’t really All-Stars but, depending on what the theme is, could return. Throw in some old-school people and some players from this summer and you have a good list of finalists.
