Stephen Colbert works on new ‘Late Show’ jingle in latest video
For many months leading up to the exit of David Letterman from “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert was extremely quiet. He was rarely on social media, and it felt pretty clear that he did not want to step on anyone’s toes. In addition to that, we also imagine that some of it may have been due to him knowing that he had many years of long work ahead, and he might as well rest up while he had an opportunity to do so.
After all, the man is now releasing videos and comedy bits left and right! In the latest one, Stephen spends some time (among other things) working on a new theme song for the show. It’s brilliantly insane, made even more so by the fact that he takes a big whiff of the marker at the end. This incarnation of Colbert is almost the insane professor, while the “Colbert Report” Stephen was more of a maniacal overlord who wanted to conquer the entire media.
Is this new show still an enormous risk? Definitely, and we don’t know how you can dispute that. There is no telling as of right now if Stephen will have anything close to a hit on his hands here. He is shifting far away from a character he pretended to be for years, and this will be more of the earnest, friendly, and upbeat man that he is off-screen. We really hope that it works out, and if nothing else, we certainly know that he is capable of it.
In case you haven’t heard, the new incarnation of “The Late Show” premiere on September 8, and will have some time to build into the fall season.
