‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: The more heroic side of Paul Wesley’s Stefan

The latest -The seventh season of “The Vampire Diaries” is a long ways off. Heck, at this point it is not even entirely clear just how much the writers know about the specific arc of it yet. However, we can at least assured that the creative people at the top have a general idea of where they want to see the story go, and for Paul Wesley’s character of Stefan in particular, there is a definite interest in ensuring that he gets to go back to being more of the show’s valiant hero, and not to force him to be a ripper or some sort of gruesome killing machine that we’ve seen from him in the past.

For a little more on this, let’s turn to one of the aforementioned people “at the top.” Speaking per E! News, executive producer Caroline Dries explains that Stefan is going to have plenty of opportunities this season to have his own time to shine, which we imagine will be in part due to the exit of Nina Dobrev and the general uncertainty for the show as a whole:

“I’m really excited to see Stefan come into his own and he’ll really take to the role of a hero, which will be really cool … He’s always been a hero but I think in a broader sense he’ll become more heroic next season.”

Really, it is probably a good thing that Stefan is going to be thrurst more into the hero role, given that we are going to see for the most part Damon revert back to who he was during the earlier seasons of the show. Romance will be a little more on the back-burner, and he will be the jaded and dangerous vampire that got so many people fascinated / obsessed with him in the first place.
