‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17 spoilers: Dallas Roberts to return

The last time you saw Dallas Roberts on “Law & Order: SVU,” it was at the end of the three-part crossover with “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD.” His character of Greg Yates was sent to prison for his killings, and it felt like his story was more or less wrapped up completely.

As it turns out, that may not actually be the case. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roberts is going to reprise his role as Yates for the first episode of season 17. The circumstances surrounding his return are not entirely clear, but we imagine that this will create more problems for Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the remainder of the squad. This is a team that is already in a relative state of flux, given the fact that Nick Amaro (Danny Pino) has made the decision to depart in order to restart his life on the West Coast. They have to figure out now where they stand moving forward.

The reason why we are getting this information so much earlier than we would for some other upcoming fall shows is simply due to the fact that “SVU” has already started to film the 17th season. The series tends to bank an episode or two early before taking a hiatus, and they will then pick up where they left off a little bit later in the summer.
