‘The Bachelorette’: Could Amy Schumer really land title role?

The BacheloretteDon’t you love it when a story takes on a life of its own? That seems to be happening right now when it comes to Amy Schumer, and the idea that she could end up becoming the star of the next season of “The Bachelorette” based on a small segment that happened last night.

This story going viral started the moment that Robert Mills over at ABC tweeted out the message below, “officially” offering the comedian the starring role on an upcoming season. Would this actually happen? Probably not, mostly because Schumer’s got a pretty busy schedule these days in between touring, starring in movies, and doing her Comedy Central series. However, we also should not act like Amy is completely against reality TV; not only did she appear on “The Bachelorette,” but she first found fame on a national level from “Last Comic Standing” and was even a part of the super-cheesy parody show “Reality Bites Back,” though we may be one of the few people to actually remember that. Interestingly, “The Bachelor” was one of the shows mocked by that program.

ABC and the producers of the franchise have invited other big-name stars to appear on the show a while back (remember when people wanted Tim Tebow?), so if nothing else, these headlines are a great way to bring a little more attention to the show.

While this particular Bachelorette may be unlikely, we do still think that there is probably a case to be made for getting someone of relative fame on the show eventually. After all, this is a real opportunity to bring in new viewers, especially since the recycling former contestants casting strategy really only helps to keep the people you have. It works for the most part, but every now and then, it’s nice to try something new!
