‘Saturday Night Live’: Stephen Amell, Steven Yeun, Mindy Kaling on our season 41 dream host list

SNL -Every year after “Saturday Night Live” comes to a conclusion, we like to come on CarterMatt and present to you a list of people we would really want to see host the show the following season. Sometimes, our wishes do come true! Last season brought us Blake Shelton and Chris Pratt finally getting their chance, and they both did a very good job.

This year, we’ve come up once again with ten names of people we feel are awesome already, and would be perfect for a weekend in New York City alongside Lorne Michaels and the cast. The only real criteria we have here is that all of these candidates have to currently be appearing on a show; in addition to that, they all would be first-time hosts if they were to appear.

1. Stephen Amell (“Arrow”) – Amell already made it clear to Seth Meyers that one of his goals is to someday host the show. Why not make that happen, given the mass popularity of superhero products these days? Also, Stephen’s proven to have the comedy chops for it.

2. Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”) – If we’re sticking with The CW for a minute, Rodriguez became one of the breakout stars of the 2014-15 TV season, and already has a Golden Globe to her name. Also, great comedic timing.

3. Ron Funches (“Undateable”) – Funches to us is one of the funniest people working right now. There’s no one single thing that makes him hilarious; mostly, it is a combination of many things from his writing, his cheeky delivery, his laugh, and his willingness to be virtually game for everything.

4. Taylor Schilling (“Orange Is the New Black”) – Given how huge the Netflix show has become, it still feels like “SNL” could mine this material so much more than they have. Getting its star on board for an episode would be a step in that direction.

5. James Spader (“The Blacklist”) – Somehow, Spader has never hosted despite being a film and television star for decades. Given that he was in “The Avengers” (seemingly a prerequisite to a hosting gig on “SNL” these days) and his current show films mostly in New York, it seems like a perfect fit.

6. Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”) – While we have seen Peter Dinklage and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau make cameos on the show, there is still no “Game of Thrones” star to have hosted “SNL.” Clarke has already done Broadway, and having her in this role would be a fun showcase for her, especially with her star rising thanks to the “Terminator” franchise.

7. Mindy Kaling (“The Mindy Project”) – Kaling had an ambition at one point in her life to be on the show, and despite “The Office” and her new show, now on Hulu, she’s never gotten to be front and center for an episode. Here’s hoping that changes.

8. Jonny Lee Miller (“Elementary”) – We are absolutely convinced that Jonny Lee Miller can do anything. He’s been the good guy, the bad guy, comic relief, and terrifying across his career. Like with James, he’s also in New York pretty much all the time, anyway.

9. Steven Yeun (“The Walking Dead”) – Like with “Game of Thrones,” it’s crazy that no one from “The Walking Dead” has actually hosted (though we did have a Norman Reedus cameo recently). We’ve seen over the years that Yeun is extremely funny and quick on his feet, and feels like the perfect choice among the cast.

10. Viola Davis (“How to Get Away with Murder”) – There is something always fascinating about watching accomplished actors climb into this world. Viola is sensational, and we could see some new dimensions for her if she was to give this a shot.
