Ratings: ‘Survivor: Worlds Apart’ finale ties ‘Modern Family’; ‘Supernatural’ season 10 ends on okay note

The ratings are in for Wednesday night’s primetime lineup, and for the most part there are no huge surprises … other than of course the continued decline of the once-great “Modern Family.”

If we are being honest, we’re still not sure what has caused the sudden erosion of comedies like this and “The Big Bang Theory” this past year in particular. Did a bunch of viewers just stop watching network comedy? It is becoming less and less of a viable medium for big ratings these days, which is probably why NBC is making “Undateable” live every episode next season. They are trying to instill a little bit of anything-can-happen into a show and a genre that has become an easy placeholder on your DVR as of late.

For those wondering, the season finale of “black-ish” also garnered a series low rating of 1.6, and we wonder to a certain extent if some out there thought that these seasons were over last week, given that game show “500 Questions” (1.2) preceded them in the lineup rather than “The Middle” or “The Goldbergs.”

The two-hour finale of “Survivor: Worlds Apart” (2.2) actually tied “Modern Family” in the preliminary ratings, while the reunion drew a 1.7. We personally feel like the finale portion of this will adjust up in the finals, while the reunion adjusts down. We’ll see if that prediction holds.

The only other notable headline from Wednesday is that “Supernatural” closed off season 10 with a 0.7 rating, a solid number that fans should feel satisfied with, given that the show aired on an island last night without “Arrow” around as a lead-in.
