‘Doctor Who’ season 9: Did Steven Moffat expect show to be over by now?

The latest -The glory of “Doctor Who” is that in some ways, it can last forever. We’ve already seen some examples of this in how it was revived many years ago as a new series for a new generation. Therefore, it is always still possible that the series can take some time off, and then come back in the future.

As we are starting to hear right now, though, even Steven Moffat himself believed at one point that the show was going to be taking a hiatus once again at around the time that he joined. He was not that optimistic about his long-term viability with the show, and he even said, per Radio Times, that he was told a thing or two after taking the job that made him feel that way:

“I’ll be honest, I thought when I took it over, and it was more or less said to me – I took over about half-way through the ten years [of nuWho] – I thought I was there to preside over the gentle, respectable and decent decline, because that’s what happens to shows that run for a long while.

“They don’t plunge off a cliff, but they go gently down. Every big show gets slightly less big; that’s a reality.”

One of the reasons that we believe that this series has had a certain amount of staying power is strictly due to it having the ability to continue to innovate, and having people aboard who are passionate about it. Both Moffat and star Peter Capaldi were longtime fans of the series before getting aboard, and many of the writers are the same way. Passion is in so many ways the key to preservation, and we don’t see the show now going anywhere.
