‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Ingrid Oliver to return (somehow!) as Osgood

Doctor Who -Well, aren’t the folks behind the scenes at “Doctor Who” rather clever? Even though Osgood was technically killed off by the Master a.k.a. Missy at the end of this past season, the BBC series has nonetheless still found a way to bring this character back. It’s a little bit of cleverness on the part of executive producer Steven Moffat, who had the following to say about the move in a statement:

“Osgood is back, fresh from her recent murder at the end of last series … We recently confirmed that Osgood was definitely dead and not returning—but in a show about time travel, anything can happen. The brilliant Ingrid Oliver is back in action. This time, though, can the Doctor trust his number one fan?”

Meanwhile, Oliver herself had her own chance to celebrate by sharing the following:

“As every actor who’s worked on Doctor Who will tell you, there’s always the secret hope you’ll get the call asking you to come back … To actually receive that call is both unexpected and brilliant. The word ‘honour’ gets banded about a lot, but it really is, it’s an honour. Especially because I was so sure Osgood was a gonner after the last series!”

The new season of “Doctor Who” is currently filming in the Cardiff area, and one of the interesting changes on the show this season is that Moffat and company are working to present more two-part stories rather than sticking with the one-episode format of recent years. This is by their estimation, a way to ensure that they keep the audience on their toes more so than giving them the same sort of story every year, to the point where it is easier to predict.

We have heard rumors that Michelle Gomez could also return as Missy this season, and we can confirm that Maisie Williams of “Game of Thrones” will be stopping by. The new season should premiere this fall.
