‘Survivor: Worlds Apart’ preview: Rodney’s not-so-happy birthday

Rodney -On Wednesday night’s new episode of “Survivor,” we could see an unprecedented level of pouting courtesy of Rodney, who is apparently deciding for whatever reason that his birthday should be very special. In a sense, we get it: You want to be partying with your pals, and instead on the show you are living on the beach with little food, forced to hang out with people you don’t like.

However, is every birthday for Rodney like an episode of “My Super Sweet 16” or something? He complains in the promo below about having “to do dishes” on his birthday, and we’re pretty sure that we’ve done dishes on our birthday every year since high school. The same goes for spending time with people who you don’t always love. You can’t dictate what the world gives you on your birthday!

What this ultimately results in is him suggesting to other people to vote him out of the game, which we don’t necessarily think is going to happen. Even if he wants to leave, we don’t actually think that Rodney will quit the game. Why? He doesn’t want to run the risk of losing a spot in the jury for one, but we also think that this is a part of just an emotional meltdown more than just some genuine desire to leave the game. It benefits some other people to keep him around, mostly because people who want to quit the game are such an easier person to beat in the end than someone who actually tries (unless you are Dan and Will; in this case, let the person who tried to quit win the game).

This promo is fun, but really averts attention away from what is the real subject of the hour: Whether or not Mike can win immunity and preserve his idol for another week, or if he will have to play it. Either way, the majority alliance is going to have to vote someone out Wednesday.

If you missed it, we discussed yesterday at this link some of the criticism of this season, and Jeff Probst’s plans to address the controversy at the reunion show. Also, sign up now in the event you want some other TV updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: CBS.)
