‘Call the Midwife’ season 4, episode 6 preview (PBS): How relationships matter

Patsy -Sunday night’s new episode of “Call the Midwife” certainly earns its title of being important, but to be fear it is also a very different one than some of the stories that you have seen as of late. Trixie has a little more of a back seat here, and for much of the hour the focus will be instead on new characters, and how the established women at Nonnatus House do their best to assist them. There’s some powerful stuff ahead, and a few things that will be important later in the season, as well.

Now that we’ve said of all of this, let’s move on to the next phase of our Saturday tradition: Presenting as many different teasers as possible for the episode ahead.

1. The story we feel you are going to be the most attached to during this episode is one of Paulette, a young woman who does not even have the right to control what happens to her body or to her unborn child due to her age. Without giving away too much, her boyfriend is very involved in this story (which is about trying to find her own independence, and what sort of consequences could come alongside such big moves.

2. Cynthia Mary Cynthia’s new position as a nun will be explored significantly more than it has to date, primarily through some other new characters who really test the role of faith in her new position.

3. For those curious about Patsy’s personal life, we feel like how this episode handles their story is much more explicit than anything that we have had a chance to see on the show so far. It should make you want to root for her further, mostly because you get a sense of how difficult life at times has been for her.

4. This episode marks the beginning of an interesting storyline for Fred, one that will last throughout the rest of the final three episodes in some surprising ways.
