Ratings: ‘Bones’ season 10, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 hit lows

Vampire Diaries -Is the departure of Nina Dobrev already hurting the ratings for “The Vampire Diaries“? We are not willing to go that far just yet, but it does appear clear yet again that this is not the same culture-defining show that it once was.

Last night, the latest episode of the CW series drew a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is down slightly from the 0.7 it drew for its last new episode. This ties a series low. It is possible that this could rise in the final ratings, but this does further help our thinking that season 7 will and probably should be the last season. At this point in the series’ run, we definitely do not envision the show suddenly surging in young viewers. It will be lucky if the ratings even stay what they were. We’re not saying that the quality will for sure tank, but the perception on the surface to some will be that the show just is not as good anymore. It may not be fair, but that could still be considered the reality.

Also on the schedule, “Bones” season 10 fell to a new series low in a 1.0 rating. This certainly does not make its renewal odds better, especially when you remember here that one of the big holdups is getting new contracts together for stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel. We feel like Fox owes the show a proper ending, but is it making enough money from the series at this point to have that be possible?

The good news last night is that “Elementary” (1.4) and “Scandal” (2.4) each recovered from some previously-less-than-stellar ratings. We do believe that both of these shows will return, so this is just news for the sake of giving news.
