‘American Idol XIV’ spoilers: What Rayvon Owen, Tyanna Jones, top 7 will perform

American Idol -Tonight, “American Idol” is bringing out some American Classics for the remaining seven artists to perform. We cannot imagine this episode being one that will do much for the 18-49 demographic, but there are some good tunes in here. For some, they’ll bring some nostalgia. For others, maybe they will actually get to hear a couple of them for the first time.

Granted, there are also some “American Idol” fans who are going to hear some of these tracks for the billionth time. Seriously, how many times do we need to hear anything from the Stevie Wonder catalog at this point? There should be some things that are just permanently retired at this point from selection.

Quentin Alexander

Lenny Kravitz, “Are You Gonna Go My Way” – Wait, why? It’s an uptempo song, but we’ve never though of this as a song about the vocals.

Simon & Garfunkel, “The Sound of Silence” – A top five all-time song for us. We really wish that he could sing a full-length version.

Clark Beckham

Breakfast at Tiffany’s, “Moon River” – Clark sings timeless songs; this one may be too dated for even this show’s audience.

Stevie Wonder, “Superstition” – Barf. There was a time we loved this song, before it was seemingly performed almost every season.

Joey Cook

Jefferson Airplane, “Somebody to Love” – Cool choice. She could do a lot with it.

Babes in Arms, “My Funny Valentine” – It’s amazing that she has not tackled this song yet.

Nick Fradiani

Billy Joel, “Only the Good Die Young” – Since Nick’s the oldest contestant left, is he saying that he’s not good? It’s a joke, people!

Tom Petty, “American Girl” – It feels like there hasn’t been a ton of Petty on the show before now.

Jax

Michael Jax, “Beat It” – This is typically not the go-to Michael song for this show. There’s potential here.

Janis Joplin, “Piece of My Heart” – This is “Superstition” all over again. Musical overkill.

Tyanna Jones

Credence Clearwater Revival, “Proud Mary” – The song seems almost made for her, since he can totally move about the stage (especially if she does the Tina Turner version).

Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers, “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” – Thank you Tyanna, for reminding people doo-wop exists. She has our favorite songs of the group.

Rayvon Owen

Willie Nelson, “Always on My Mind” – This could be beautiful. A quieter moment for a guy who we know can belt it.

The Doobie Brothers, “Long Train Runnin'” – Another solid choice. Rayvon’s got our second-favorite set.
