‘American Idol XIV’ rankings: Clark Beckham, Jax, Joey Cook, Tyanna Jones battle in top 7

Clark -Is “American Idol XIV” starting to become a little more like this season of “The Voice“? We’re starting to feel that way, at least when it comes to one key facet of the competition: The fact that it is starting to feel as though we are going to get a predictable winner. We’re starting to have a clear favorite here, and it is up to the other contestants to really deliver some knockouts to get close to overtaking him. Also, it’s going to take them being able to deliver them without many weaker performances in between.

As always, our rankings are based on performance quality, voting history, perceived popularity, and a little bit of edit thrown in there, as well.

7. Rayvon Owen – He has needed the Twitter save from the fans for two straight weeks now, and that does not make it seem particularly likely that he is going to make some deep and super-dramatic run into the competition. Then again, we have seen some crazier things happen over the years.

6. Nick Fradiani – This is the first time we’re really worried about Nick leaving the competition. Most of the internet disliked his “Teenage Dream,” and Clark seems to be really picking up steam at the same time that he is starting to fade a little.

5. Quentin Alexander – Personally, our dream concert right now would be a Quentin – Jax double-ticket show where each would rock on with their bad selves for an hour each. However, we’re trying to get the impression of the entire country in addition to just how we’re feeling right now. Quentin still has been in some vote danger this season.

4. Tyanna Jones – We were at one point concerned about her, but a recovery performance last week should put her right back in good graces for a little while. We do at least admire her for continuing to take some risks.

3. Joey Cook – There are some similarities between Joey and Jax. Both are quirky, interesting vocalists who rarely ever do a straight-up cover of a song. That is one of the reasons why we figure they are each still here, at least in that you never quite know what they are going to be doing on a given week.

2. Jax – The reason we give Jax the slight edge for now is because she has been slightly more consistent throughout the competition, and probably has some slightly higher highs when it comes to performances.

1. Clark Beckham – The unfortunate thing for everyone is that we’re starting to feel like Clark is running away with this. He has had some weaker performances, but no complete duds. Meanwhile, some of his great performances have been incredible. Pending a bomb or two in the weeks ahead, you can go ahead and write him into the top three with permanent marker.
