‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: Olly Murs not interested in hosting gig unless Caroline Flack joins him
It looks like it is Caroline Flack or bust for “The X Factor” if they want to have Olly Murs on the series this coming season. This has been the rumor ever since Dermot O’Leary stepped down as host after so many years on the job, and really, getting these two back together would be the only way we’d be okay with him leaving. They were an effervescent, electric duo, always fun and never afraid to joke about themselves. Some other reality shows at times do have people in charge who take themselves far too seriously.
Speaking to The Sun in a new interview, Murs made his intentions and opinion rather clear that he respects Dermot a great a deal, and does not want the gig unless he has an opportunity to reinvent it, and not try to do the same exact thing that we’ve seen so many times before:
“There’s no way I would even discuss doing the job on my own to replace Dermot. Dermot is one of my best mates in the industry … He’s my showbiz brother. I would never do the job on my own and never try to be Dermot O’Leary.
“The only way I would even think or talk about it would be if Caroline was doing it with me because me and Caroline were great together. It would be completely different to what Dermot did.”
To us, the fact that Murs did not straight-out deny anything is a very strong indicator to us that he is going to be taking on the gig. If that happens, we should know within the next month or so as the series prepares for auditions.
Once the hosts for the new season (or series, to use the British term) are set, the next significant challenge coming will be figuring out who will be advising the contestants as judges. Robbie Williams is a hotly-rumored name in the place of Louis Walsh, and there is talk that Cheryl Fernandez-Virsini could not return.
These on-air personalities are important, but remember here that they cannot turn a group of stinkers into gold. Great contestants will be what makes or breaks this season.
