‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 8, episode 19 preview: Trouble with a Tardis

The Big Bang TheoryAfter a lengthy hiatus, “The Big Bang Theory” returns Thursday night with an episode that will be about everything from the Skywalker Ranch to childhood memories to Penny sharing her knowledge of geek culture after spending so much time with Leonard and the gang. Expect some great comedy, as evidenced in the sneak peeks below. Granted, we are somewhat surprised that CBS gave us three of them, mostly because this makes up a pretty good chunk of the overall episode when you start to think about it.

1. Tardis warfare – Who knew that Howard’s piece of “Doctor Who” memorabilia would become such a sticking point in his relationship with Bernadette? They find it in the garage of his mother’s house, which they plan on renovating before moving into it together. He wants to keep it, whereas she wants to sell it.

2. Sheldon prepares for a trip to Berkeley – He and Leonard are planning to give a lecture there, and this sneak peek is easily the weakest of the three. For some reason, this show really likes to reassert time and time again that geeks like hearing bathroom humor about Sheldon’s anxiety to go in strange places. Sure, many of us share this anxiety, but who talks about it so openly or so many times? We’ve never found it funny, and still don’t here.

3. Back to the Tardis – As a way to ensure that he can keep it, Howard and Bernadette are going to have a ping-pong competition, with the winner making the choice. Penny has volunteered as tribute for Bernadette, while Howard recruits Raj. Fun stuff in here, including Penny quoting “Game of Thrones.” One thing that is slightly off is the notion that they will have a hard time selling this. Do you know how many Whovians would love a life-size Tardis in their backyard / living room / kitchen / anywhere?
