‘Dancing with the Stars’ 20: Charlotte McKinney responds to Bruno Tonioli comments

Charlotte -We’re not going to say that we were surprised by the elimination of Charlotte McKinney on “Dancing with the Stars” Monday night, mostly because it was easy to expect it. She had relatively low scores through two weeks, and she is not the most well-known person on the season. Models typically do not have a particularly long trajectory on the show, and for some reason often do not get a ton of support from the voting public.

However, what we were somewhat stunned by is the way in which Bruno Tonioli randomly eviscerated her in his critique after her performance prior to her elimination. It was not a good dance performance, but he went completely out of left field in telling her that she is “not going to win the Nobel Prize,” but that she is “easy on the eyes.” Basically, the insinuation he made was that she was only useful for her appearance, which really did not have a whole lot to do with what she did on the dance floor.

Suffice it to say, Charlotte was none too pleased with this after the fact, appearing on “Good Morning America” this week and expressing some surprise that these comments were made, especially since it goes against what she had already established as her platform on the show:

“I just really thought it was uncalled for, especially since the week before I was trying to use [the show] as a platform for social media bullying. Just stop with any negativity.”

What we will say for Bruno here is that he is in a position similar to Natalia Kills, the fired judge on the New Zealand version of “The X Factor”: He is hired specifically for the purpose of making snarky comments that make headlines. What he failed to do in the moment is properly police himself and differentiate between being good TV (which is what he is paid to do), and strictly being mean. There would have been a way to make a similar comment without insulting her intellect for no good reason and expressing that dancing is simply not her thing after three performances.
