‘Game of Thrones’ season 5: Showrunners talk Jon Snow’s mother, more in ‘Seth Meyers’ interview

Game of Thrones -How do you know that you have a huge show? When your showrunners are booked on late-night talk shows! You don’t see that happen often, but it is precisely what took place with “Game of Thrones” executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” this week. (Yet, for some reason, the video thumbnail below has “George R.R. Martin” written across it.)

Maybe there are a few subjects in here that you have heard discussed in some other chats over the years, but we still find this to be a particularly fascinating look into the minds of two creators discussing something that they clearly love. You find out some of their biggest challenges (working with horses is one of them), how they handle fan theories on the street, and also one particularly challenging moment with George R.R. Martin where he asked them who Jon Snow’s mother was.

Do we hope that this particular question is answered on the show? To be honest, we really don’t care that much. This woman has not defined Jon in any way so far, so unless she is tied to his future, a reveal would only further divert him from his true mission. The only real information this would offer us potentially is backstory for her and Ned Stark, which would be tremendous if there were ten seasons of 13-15 episodes. Sadly, that is not the case. We only have so much time!

Then again, who knows? Maybe this is a reveal that could turn out fantastic, and have huge implications for the rest of the series moving into the future.
