‘Rizzoli & Isles’ season 5, episode 17 review: Did Maura and Jack break up?
We haven’t seen much of Jack around on “Rizzoli & Isles” and have been wondering if Maura is even seeing him anymore! Is there still a relationship going on between these two? Let’s take a look.
Maura is the president elect of the New England medical officers and Jane, Jack and her friends couldn’t wait to celebrate her accomplishment, so they show up at the morgue with an award plaque, champagne and a cake. As a licensed funeral director let’s just say that no matter how clean a morgue is (and they are very clean!) we would never eat or drink in there. Eating cake in the morgue…. just no.
During the celebration, Jack seems to be a little off as he drinks down his champagne in one giant gulp! Later the next day he comes to Maura to tell her that his ex-wife has been offered a job through Nasa that will take her to New Mexico. Their custody agreement over their daughter says that he has to give consent for his ex-wife to take their daughter out of state and he doesn’t want to take away her opportunity. Instead he’s been trying to figure out ways to still see his daughter by having her come and visit during holidays or him taking trips out there to see her, but he assures Maura that it won’t affect their relationship.
After having some time to think about the situation, Maura feels that Jack should move to New Mexico to be with his daughter and even though he protests, saying that it’s his decision to make, Maura says that she can’t live with the guilt of keeping Jack and his daughter apart… and they end their relationship.
For those of you out there that loved Jack and Maura together, this was definitely a sad episode. We liked Jack fairly well, but the chemistry between him and Maura just wasn’t as great as it could’ve been. We still have hope that Maura is going to find someone great at some point, but Jack never really felt like the one to us. Episode grade: B-
