‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: Ian Somerhalder teases big Stefan decision

Damon -When “The Vampire Diaries” returns to television in just under a week’s time, you could see a very different side to the Stefan Salvatore character. As of late, he has really done his best to come across as kind, nurturing, and caring … but how long is that sort of behavior really going to last? We’re about to find out.

Speaking in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ian Somerhalder (who actually directed the March 12 installment) teases that Paul Wesley’s character “makes a very, very tough decision that changes everything for him for quite a while” in the episode. As for what it will be, that is still relatively unclear. One of the interesting things to consider here at the moment is mostly that the last we saw Stefan’s current prospective love interest Caroline, she had turned off her humanity switch following the death of her mother Liz. She seems very interested in going off the rails.

Does this mean that Stefan could join her? There is something that would be fun about seeing these two on a crazy, hedonistic tour of the world, but we have to wait and see if that will ultimately happen. For now, the biggest thing that we’re hoping to see here is just that he gets some challenging, fun material to work with. We know that Wesley himself really enjoys playing the ripper side of the character, since it gives him a chance to do many more crazy things.

Hopefully, we’ll have some more scoop prior to this episode airing. Stay tuned!
