‘Supergirl’ spoilers: Do we have our Toyman?

CBS continued their casting blitz for “Supergirl” on Monday, and the latest addition yet again has a musical connection.

Joining “Glee” alum Melissa Benoist and current “Nashville” actress Laura Benanti on the DC Comics adaptation is Jeremy Jordan of “Smash” fame. Basically, this all proves that this show could do a really amazing musical episode if they ever wanted to really get strange and meta. He will be playing the part of Winslow “Winn” Schott, a colleague of our leading lady Kara Zor-El who is extremely experienced in all things technology. In the DC Comics, this character also goes by the alter ego of Toyman. It’s far too early to be seen if this will happen on the show itself, given that the show may choose to be very patient with some of these reveals. Take a look, for example, at Caitlin Snow on “The Flash.”

The “Supergirl” pilot is going to film this month, and the show has many months in order to figure out just what sort of program it wants to be in terms of action and tone. The network is already investing a whole lot into the idea, which could be on their schedule for the fall. We’ll get a chance to see in full come the May sweeps.

Overall, we’re still excited about the direction of this series. It is fairly hard not to, given that you have executive producers Ali Adler and Greg Berlanti on board. Meanwhile, Andrew Kreisberg of “Arrow” and “The Flash” has also signed on, so there’s a lot of superhero clout here.
