‘Call the Midwife’ season 4 finale spoilers: First details on Helen George, cast’s story

Call the Midwife -Have you enjoyed this season of “Call the Midwife“? We’re feeling somewhat torn over it. The individual storylines have been as poignant as always, but we wish there was a little more of a long-term narrative engine established here, as well. When you have a series that only lasts for eight episodes, you almost expect there to be a little more in the way of serialization. Instead, we’ve had an almost-procedural format at times.

If there is a serialized component to next week’s season 4 finale, the BBC is keeping rather coy about it for the time being. With that being said, the synopsis below does at least offer you up some additional insight in terms of what you can expect:

“Trixie and Sister Mary Cynthia team up to support a deaf mother-to-be, while a case of morning sickness proves more serious than initially suspected. Elsewhere, Fred’s daughter is less than delighted about his forthcoming wedding.”

Will there be a huge, emotional cliffhanger to close things off? If there is, we don’t think it will be for the purpose of producing shock value. Just remember back to the end of season 3 when Jessica Raine departed. The show was not looking to create some sort of stunning moment with Jenny deciding to go beyond Nonnatus House; however, it was a story that needed to be told for the sake of closure. The drama came from the mere fact she was leaving.

We are sure that we will have a whole lot more to discuss here come tomorrow night. After all, this is the last episode of the series prior to the Christmas Special in December. That is very much a lengthy wait.
