‘Saturday Night Live’ music: Alabama Shakes perform ‘Don’t Wanna Fight’

SNL -Alabama Shakes are the sort of band who you don’t always hear about very much when you just listen to the radio. However, you hear them on “Saturday Night Live,” and you immediately start to get into their energy and their sound.

We admit, we know very little about the band. We even had to look up the title of tonight’s first number “Don’t Wanna Fight.” Even with that being said, we still ended up very much enjoying it! It was intense, soulful, and completely different. When you hear the name Alabama Shakes, you probably think mostly of twang. What they have instead is arguably one of the more unique bands playing right now, with an interesting vocal blend and lyrics. They feel almost like a group that Lorne Michaels gets because he likes their music. Also, maybe they are very gracious and easy to work with. One of the other reasons may just be that the group only recently released this song, and this is the biggest promotional platform that they’ve had for it to date.

For the second song, the band went with “Gimme All Your Love,” a song that had a mixture of lyrics and some key instrumental moments. This was just a pretty fun song to rock out to from start to center, and very enjoyable to take in.

Overall, we would definitely understand if this band is not everyone’s cup of tea. Luckily, we find what they do on the show fascinating, and also major kudos for playing real music with real instruments.
