‘Mad Men’ season 7 trailer: This retrospective could rip out your heart

We knew already from watching “Mad Men” over the years that this can be an emotional show; sometimes, that emotion came from subtlety, but it was still certainly there and very much on display.

So what’s the reaction like when we actually watch the show playing sentimental music? Well, you may be sniffling by the end of the minute-long video below. In true Matthew Weiner fashion, this video does not make showing off new footage into much of a priority at all. Then again, it really does not need to. This show knows very well already that it has done masterful work, and in many ways, just reminding prospective viewers of that alone is enough to get them watching.

How will the series end? That is something that will probably be up for debate even just a week or two before the series finale? While it felt more like the main character needed to die on “Breaking Bad” and “Sons of Anarchy,” that same need is not present here. While Don Draper has never been presented as a saint or anything close to it, there are still some times when it is fairly easy to find yourself either rooting for the guy, or at least fascinated to see his potentialdownfall. That is what makes all of this so fascinating in the end.

The seventh season returns on Sunday, May 5 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern.
