‘American Idol XIV’ video: Jacob Tolliver becomes the new piano man

After watching Jacob Tolliver’s audition for “American Idol XIV,” we admittedly do not have much of a clue as to how good of a singer he is. It is a little bit interesting that for a singing competition, the majority of his performance of “Great Balls of Fire” is spent watching him play the piano, give crazy Jerry Lee Lewis eyes and jump around.

With this being said, we would be greatly upset if this man does not still find a way to make it into the next round of the competition. There are so many people on this show who we feel will come on here and just stand at the center of stage while singing a ballad. Jacob didn’t do that. He really tried to entertain! To us, this competition is about finding the next great entertainer more than the best singer. We’ve seen plenty of great singers disappear the moment the show is over. At this point, they need people who can stand out.

In the end, our biggest justification for giving Jacob a ticket is merely that there will always be an opportunity later to send him home if he bombs at Hollywood Week. We’d rather see him there than a singer with an okay voice, but no real charisma. Don’t put anyone through just because they have a story.
