‘The X Factor’ UK: Could Ben Haenow’s ‘Something I Need’ debut at #1?

The latest news -The British press likes to make a huge deal out of the “Christmas #1,” meaning that you have the most-popular single on the most-popular shopping day of the year. This is something that many former “X Factor” winners have managed to snag over the course of several years, and with this in mind, current champion Ben Haenow is going to be looking to do the same exact thing.

As for whether or not he is going to succeed in getting this achievement, it may be a little harder for him than it was for others. Why? According to the Official Charts Company, the inclusion of streaming into the equation this year makes matters a little more complicated. Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” has a shot of edging it out this time, given that it is already well-known beyond just fans of the show. Ironically, the show probably helped to popularize it for courtesy of a Fleur East performance.

One other issue standing in Ben’s way for now is mostly just that the ratings for the show are down this year, and in turn, this means that there are fewer possible consumers for singles than there were in some past years. This is something that ultimately, we are going to have to keep in mind here.

If he gets the #1, it is a big achievement for him obviously. However, at the same time, it’s not a real indictment on his future. There is still plenty of time for him to be a star depending on what sort of music he releases.
