‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: See Martin Freeman, Kate McKinnon, and shenanigans

SNL -We don’t know how to properly contain our excitement that Martin Freeman is hosting this weekend’s edition of “Saturday Night Live,” and for good reason: The man has been in so many of our favorite entertainment properties over the years. Kate McKinnon says it right in the promo below: He’s got “Sherlock,” “Fargo,” the original version of “The Office,” and of course his starring role in “The Hobbit” trilogy as Bilbo Baggins.

With all of this being said, live comedy is a very different beast than anything else that Freeman is known for, so this is a little bit of a trickier gig. It’s hard to predict how Freeman will do. This is also more of a challenge for “SNL” as well to familiarize their host with the entire structure of the show. Almost every host this season has either hosted before, is a former cast member, or in the case of Chris Pratt, is married to a former host.

The overall success of this show will, as always, come down to some of the material. We’re also curious to see just how much the show has its finger on the pulse here. It feels like the show in the promo is trying to associate Freeman mostly with “The Hobbit,” but we actually think he may be even more well-known for playing Watson at this point.

Regardless of our expectations, this is a show worth checking out, and we’ll have more coverage throughout the week.
