Thanksgiving TV: Is ‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 8 new tonight?

The latest -If you love TV, there is one thing that you probably know already about Thanksgiving: This is not exactly the easiest night of the year to watch new programming. Most of the major networks opt for either repeats or specials, knowing that there is not exactly a whole lot of people who will be around to watch your episodes.

With that in mind, the majority of the hit programs are going to be off of the air for tonight. This includes “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS, “The Vampire Diaries” on The CW, and also the entire Shonda Rhimes domination block that airs on ABC.

Is there going to still be something worth watching on Turkey Day other than football? Sure, if you like some of the other CBS comedies. Everything other than “The Big Bang Theory” on the network’s schedule is going to be on the air again tonight, with the biggest reason for that most likely being just that the network is trying to get some of its episodes out there after the Thursday-night lineup started so late this year due to NFL coverage.

As for some of your other favorite shows, “The Big Bang Theory” has a couple of weeks off before a Christmas episode arrives later this year. Meanwhile, “The Vampire Diaries” and “Reign” will return next week, and the Shonda Rhimes block is off of the air until January 29. Clearly, ABC is trying to ensure that these shows are all paired together for as long as possible.

Of course, we’ll have further news on all of these shows moving forward, so be sure to check back soon for some more of that.
