‘The Walking Dead’ season 5: Lauren Cohan still marveling at series’ success

Maggie -It is not particularly often that a show like “The Walking Dead” comes along. Heck, we’d say that “Game of Thrones” is really the only other drama that comes close when it comes to not only getting huge ratings, but drawing so many headlines and pop-culture references.

It was clear almost right away that the show was going to be enormous, but what was not entirely clear was just how enormous it would be. During season 2, which happened to be the season that Lauren Cohan joined, the show found a new level, and right after that it started to break records and become the #1 scripted drama out there.

Cohan is featured in a pretty-revealing new interview in Women’s Health talking about her fitness routine and more, and on the context of the show, she explained how her desire to be a part of something great was much more significant to her than trying to gauge its popularity or its impact. That was just a side effect that has become very rewarding to her career:

“I didn’t really have time to think about whether I thought it was going to be big, I was just so happy with the show and being on the show and the people that I work with … It’s funny you sort of come out of our little vacuum of filming and you realize how popular it is.”

For all Maggie fans, the unfortunate thing right now is that her status is not entirely clear for the rest of the fall. Cohan’s character is off with Team Abraham feeling very depressed over Eugene, and who knows if they are going to be able to make it back to Atlanta in time to help Rick and company? They’ll have to go to the church soon, and the other camp may already be gone by that point. Maybe they can get directions from Gabriel?

What we at least know is that Sunday night’s new episode seems to be very much putting Andrew Lincoln’s character in the spotlight.
