Will ‘Witches of East End,’ ‘Unforgettable,’ others benefit from ‘Longmire’ renewal?

Witches of East End -Today marks what we would consider to be an enormous victory for all shows that were cast side by some other networks. After all, the news came in that “Longmire” was picked up by Netflix after three seasons on A&E.

Is this a watershed moment for canceled shows, or a one-time thing? We’re going to look at some other shows right now floating around in stasis right now, and if their odds of renewal have changed as a result of Netflix making this move.

Witches of East End” – Out of the shows we’re featuring here, this is the one with the biggest chance of a return. It had a diehard following, some notable stars, and it has a petition with more than 70,000 signatures. We don’t think it will land on Netflix, but we wouldn’t rule out a streaming service like Yahoo Screen, or maybe some other networks like ION. There is still some hope here, even if we’re not as confident as we were with “Longmire.”

“Unforgettable” – You could make the ION argument for this show, as well, given that procedural shows do work well there. It seems unlikely that TNT is interested, and that would probably the only other chance for Poppy Montgomery’s series.

“Dallas” – In case you did not hear, this show gave up on its quest to find a new home earlier today, and published a lengthy article about their decision. This is unfortunately the reality of most canceled shows.

We would love for some of these shows to find a new home of their own, but the reality is for now that “Longmire” and “The Killing” are still more exceptions over the rule. Either you have to have a pretty large viewer base to get someone to pick you up, or an executive out there that believes in you so much that they’ll bring you on board over some original programming.
