‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 Christmas Special spoilers: Michelle Dockery on Christmas setting

Mary -It may feel like a little bit of a “well duh” thing to say that the “Downton Abbey” Christmas Special would be actually set at Christmas, but the funny thing is that it’s really not as common a phenomenon as you would assume. The past two specials for the ITV series have not been set at the holiday, so for the next one to be is a little bit of a comeback.

With that being said, it is one that we definitely welcome with open arms. Speaking per STV, Michelle Dockery confirms that there is not only going to be Christmas, but there will also be some snow on the ground. We assume that this took quite a bit of work on the part of the crew, given that this episode specifically took place in the summer.

Also, we know that at least a good part of this episode is going to be taking place away from the Abbey, which also continues a tradition from other recent Christmas Specials. Based on some filming reports, we may be heading to a castle that has some connections to recent “Harry Potter” films.

While we anticipate some fun and festivities in this episode, there will also likely be plenty of drama. There is a massive Anna / Bates cliffhanger that still needs to be addressed, and to go along with that, we have to learn whether or not Tom Branson and Daisy will finally decide to say goodbye to the Abbey for America and London, respectively.
