‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ spoilers: Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka officially cast

We have known for a little while now that Neil Patrick Harris was close to joining the cast of “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” but we are now very pleased to report that this casting is finally official! Not only that, but we can also report now that his husband David Burtka is coming along with him for a gig.

Per a new report from TVLine, the former “How I Met Your Mother” star (who is potentially getting set to host a variety series on NBC) is going to be in the last two episodes of the season as a salesman, who is capable of changing their stripes to suit any given environment. Meanwhile, Burtka will appear in the season finale exclusively, and will be tied in a way to Jessica Lange’s Elsa Mars in a way that could be pretty racy.

It was revealed recently that Harris and Burtka were both coveted for guest gigs on the very first season of “American Horror Story,” but Neil turned it down because he felt like the roles he and Burtka played on the recent “Harold and Kumar” Christmas movie were somewhat similar, and he didn’t want to become too boxed into that sort of part. This sounds like it is completely different, and we’re not even sure that the two men are even working together here.

In addition to all of this, Neil also has the upcoming hosting gig for the 2015 Academy Awards, so suffice it to say, the man has a ton on his plate for the weeks and months ahead. We’re just glad that he and Murphy found a way to make this gig finally official given all of the buzz around it.
