ABC’s ‘Revenge’ season 4 falls further in the ratings; current renewed / canceled odds

Revenge -Monday is not a very good day to be a fan of “Revenge,” at least if you are someone who looks at ratings meticulously and tries to draw something out of them.

The show Sunday drew what is ultimately a series-low 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is woeful no matter how you look at it. Does it air at a time time on the night? Sure. Does it have a bad lead-in now in “Resurrection”? Sure, but even when “Resurrection” was better, it was struggling.

The best thing that “Revenge” has going for it right now is strictly the fact that it is an ABC Studios production, and therefore the financials here are different than the network trying to license the show from somewhere else. However, many of their big hits, from “Agents of SHIELD” to “Once Upon a Time” to anything Shonda Rhimes, are all produced in-house from their parent company. There’s not really a major advantage that comes here like there would if this was a CBS-produced show on CBS.

Another advantage that the show is losing is syndication. It’s going to make it to the 88-episode threshold this year, which allows it to lose some of the leverage that it had going into the season.

Four seasons in, it’s hard to see “Revenge” suddenly getting a surge of ratings. The only real thing that it can hope for is that ABC wants a proper final season, and the network orders a 13-episode season 5 to wrap the tale of Emily Thorne up. We feel like one way or another, the show will at least allow it to get the ending it deserves. If it does get canceled, it should have time to tell the rest of its story.
