‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4 spoilers: Georgina Haig on long-term future for Elsa

Elsa -The fourth season of “Once Upon a Time” has obviously been a success for ABC, especially when it comes to the ratings. While we felt that all of the “Frozen” publicity takes away slightly from the other characters, it obviously was a great way to bring more attention to a series that is still a cornerstone on the network.

With all of the attention that is on Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff this season, you would think that there’s a chance they would stick around … right? Well, not so much in this case. It has already been made pretty clear that this is just an 11-episode story, and speaking to IGN, Georgina Haig (who plays Elsa) made it clear that Disney may want to eventually remove the characters to make way for other stories with them:

“I think normally if characters were this popular, they might have that chance that they’d stick around, but because of the whole Frozen franchise, I don’t know if this is a different story – like Disney probably have certain ideas for their franchise that may or may not include the characters being able to live on in the show for an indefinite amount of time. So I don’t know. It’s probably an interesting conversation that will be happening with Disney and ABC.”

The Disney involvement here has remained one of the more frustrating parts of this season, mostly because it’s a little different than every other character on the show. They’ve had freedom to make Charming, Snow, or many other beloved characters be somewhat different from their source material, but they really cannot do anything to taint the reputations of these people. It’s a blessing to have “Frozen,” but also at the same time a tremendous storytelling challenge.
