‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Hugh Bonneville on Robert, the estate’s new challenge

Downton Abbey -The world is changing on “Downton Abbey,” and we are specifically going to see that may a huge role in the upcoming fifth season. There have been times in the past where you may have been concerned about Downton taking a huge hit thanks to politics, but the Labour Party in 1924 may be making on of its biggest moves yet.

Per the show’s network in ITV, the potential implementation of a new estate tax is something that could devastate Downton at its very core, since it would mark an attempt from the government to take away the deep pockets of some of these wealthy families. As Hugh Bonneville puts it, “the challenge ahead really, is to make the estate pay in this new age”.

One of the other interesting things that could come out of this story is mostly watching and seeing how all of these characters choose to react to this significant change in the world. For example, we imagine that someone like Tom, who has socialist tendencies, may be pleased by the implementation of this tax, even though it comes at the expense of those he chooses to live with. However, the rest of the upstairs folk may not choose to feel the same way, and we’re not sure that the servants will be too keen on the idea of losing their jobs.

This is of course not the only huge story you can expect to see unfold moving forward; fellow star Rob James-Collier has already mentioned that there is a huge story ahead for Thomas.
