‘Community’ season 6: Joe and Anthony Russo to direct premiere

There is some big news breaking right now when it comes to “Community” season 6, especially in the form of who will be in charge of directing the very first episode: Joe and Anthony Russo!

Speaking to IGN in a recent interview, the brothers (who directed recently “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) made it clear that they are returning to the former NBC / now Yahoo series in order to direct the season 6 premiere. Executive producers Dan Harmon and Chris McKenna have apparently come up with a very interesting idea for the two, and it was enough to lure them back to the series after many years away.

In case you are looking here for some sort of historical perspective, the last time the Russo Brothers directed a “Community” episode, it was around three years ago. Their careers have since skyrocketed, but they have a special place in our heart given their involvement in the show’s pilot, and so many of the early episodes.

Getting these two on board should be another sign to fans that there really is no need to worry right now about “Community” going cheap or losing its spark now that it has a different home away from network television. As a matter of fact, we would imagine that this could open the door for it to be even crazier and more innovative than anything that we have seen before.

Given that the new season has not started to film yet, we imagine that it will be January at the earliest before new episodes premiere, if not longer than that. We’re fine with waiting however long it is, just so long as the episodes are great.
