‘Survivor: San Juan del Sur’ cast spoilers: ‘Amazing Race’ alum, former MLB pitcher in
Remember the days when “Survivor” really was all about the “ordinary people”? Well, we’ve moved past that over the past few years with some of the stunt casting. We don’t event really know if putting former athletes or TV stars on the show have helped the ratings at all, mostly because they people rarely have any clue at all what they are doing in the game.
Nonetheless, Entertainment Weekly has reported the first three pairs to be competing on the latest “Blood vs. Water” season entitled “San Juan del Sur,” and every one of them has some sort of connection to fame already.
Natalie and Nadiya Anderson – The “twinnies” are the first “Amazing Race” contestants to appear on the show, and they are doing so despite being pretty awful in their last season. Still, we understand the casting: They both are loud, opinionated, and will cause drama.
John Rocker and Julie McGee – The former (and controversial) pitcher will be on the show with his girlfriend, who owns a spray-tan salon. Is he Jeff Kent 2.0? Probably not, since it may be harder for both he and his girlfriend to keep a secret.
Reed Kelly and Josh Canfield – They are boyfriends and Broadway performers, and probably are actually what Frankie Grande claimed to be at the start of “Big Brother 16” before revealing himself to be a “social media mogul” (barf). We don’t really look at them as stunt casting, though, since neither was a huge enough star to be recognizable.
Will we be upset if every pair is like this? Sure, but if every other team fills that “ordinary men and women” quota, we’ll still be happy. One of the great things about “Survivor” is that regardless of your background, you have just as much a shot of winning the game … at least so long as you’re not lifeless in challenges.
