2014 Emmys: Ty Burrell, Louis CK, Allison Janney among winners (list)

Take a look -Over the course of tonight’s Primetime Emmy Awards, we’re going to provide our quick analysis on those who manage to emerge victorious. Hopefully, there will be some surprises thrown in here in addition to all the somewhat-expected winners throughout the night. Refresh for more updates!

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series – Ty Burrell, “Modern Family.” Well, this begins again, doesn’t it? Another parade of “Modern Family” winning awards.

Writing in a Comedy Series – Louis CK, “Louie.” We will never slight anyone giving this man an award ever. The show is brilliant, and his writing is a big reason why.

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series – Allison Janney, “Mom.” A predictable win here, but one we understand. The Emmys love Janney, and she was predictable to snag this one.

Directing in a Comedy Series – Gail Mancuso, “Modern Family.” We already wonder if “Orange Is the New Black” will be snubbed in all major categories … or at least the ones presented tonight.

Actor in a Comedy Series – Jim Parsons, “The Big Bang Theory.” The train of predictable winners keeps on rolling with Jim. A stellar actor in a one-of-a-kind role, sure, but how about some love this year for Ricky Gervais or Louis in this category.

Actress in a Comedy Series – Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Veep.” Seriously, why even have a comedy category this year? We’re not disappointed with the winners themselves, since most of them are deserving. The problem here is that it doesn’t make good TV.

Reality Competition – “The Amazing Race.” Once again, Emmy voters TOOK A NAP with a category that was terrible from the onset. We actually love “The Amazing Race” and always have, but it was not anywhere close to the best competition series over the past year.

Writing, Miniseries / Movie – Steven Moffat, “Sherlock.” This is the first big shocker of the night to us, given that we thought that this was not going the Moff’s way.

Supporting Actress, Miniseries / Movie – Kathy Bates, “American Horror Story: Coven.” Another surprise! It’s not often that Bates is an upset, but she was up against Julia Roberts and Allison Tolman.

Supporting Actor, Miniseries / Movie – Martin Freeman, “Sherlock: His Last Vow.” Did we overrate “The Normal Heart,” or underrate “Sherlock”? It’s hard to say, but we didn’t see some of this coming.

Director, Miniseries / Movie – Colin Bucksie, “Fargo.” Shocker! We really thought that Ryan Murphy had this in a landslide, but we do love “Fargo” very much.

Actor, Miniseries / Movie – Benedict Cumberbatch, “Sherlock: His Last Vow.” Going into tonight, we wouldn’t have thought this was likely. After most of the other results, though, it was almost inevitable.

Actress, Miniseries / Movie – Jessica Lange, “American Horror Story: Coven.” This was a winner that we somewhat telegraphed, mostly because Kathy won her award. Who would’ve thought, though, that this show would have more major Emmys than “The Normal Heart”?

Miniseries – “Fargo.” This one made us giddy. Such a phenomenal show, and such a perfect winner. It was probably our perfect weekly show of the past year.

TV Movie – “The Normal Heart.” After so many surprises in the individual categories, the film still got recognized … which was probably right. We love “Sherlock,” but the performances from the actors were better than the overall story.

Writing, Variety Special – Sarah Silverman, “Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles.” Her acceptance speech was almost overshadowed by Ricky Gervais being Ricky Gervais.

Directing, Variety Special – Gless Weiss, “The Tony Awards.” He won an award while directing another awards show. Surreal.

Variety Series – “The Colbert Report.” Instead of a “Daily Show” winning streak, it’s now a Comedy Central winning streak!

Supporting Actor, Drama – Aaron Paul, “Breaking Bad.” Yeah, b***h! It’s one last great win for an actor who is always deserving.

Directing, Drama – Cary Fukunaga, “True Detective.” There was no other way to go with this. The guy literally directed every episode of this entire series.

Supporting Actress, Drama – Anna Gunn, “Breaking Bad.” Speaking of great send-offs, how about one more Anna? She definitely deserves it for such an underrated role.

Writer, Drama – Moira Walley-Beckett, “Breaking Bad.” The big surprise to us was that Vince Gilligan didn’t win for his own show.

Actress, Drama – Julianna Margulies, “The Good Wife.” It’s nice to see a network show actually win something! It’s crazy how many times that Margulies has been nominated for various shows, and it’s always deserving.

Actor, Drama – Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad.” This was almost an upset to us, even with the other wins. Maybe the two “True Detective” guys canceled each other out.

Comedy Series – “Modern Family.” Yawn. Good, but weakening, show that continues to predictably win every year.

Drama Series – “Breaking Bad.” After McConaughey lost to Cranston, we saw this one coming. It was one of the greatest series ever, so how can you argue?
