‘American Idol’ season 14 video: Casey Thrasher returns, more audition highlights

While you may still have a very long way to go until “American Idol” season 14 premieres on Fox, it’s never too early to start to have something to look forward to, right?

The video below gives you an early sense of what the audition process was like this year in Kansas City, Missouri, and there were also a few contestants shown off, as well. One familiar face that you most-likely recognize in here is Casey Thrasher, who made it pretty far on the show last year before being eliminated. This show loves its second chances, so it should be no shock that we are seeing him again; also, note that both the last two winners in Caleb Johnson and Candice Glover were not auditioning for the first time on the show when they made it on.

These contestants are really what matter to us the most right now, since that was the biggest problem with the show last year. There were multiple weeks where we could only point out about two or three people good enough of winning the whole competition, and that is never a good thing. There needs to be at least five or six potential winners in your top 24 to make us think that there is a competition, and not just something that will be over a couple of weeks in when you start to see everyone perform.

As for judges Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez, and Keith Urban, we are not too worried. They were all for the most part entertaining last year, and the only major complaint we have is just that the camera focuses perhaps a little too much on J.Lo.
