‘Girl Meets World’ stabilizes in the ratings; is this good sign for show’s future?

Girl Meets World -You knew that the premiere numbers for “Girl Meets World” going in were going to be huge, just based on the popularity of the original “Boy Meets World” and all the hype surrounding it. However, there was still an obvious fear that over time the numbers would fall apart as that hype went away … and it started to the first few weeks. The show went from being a runaway hit to just a solid hit for the Disney Channel, and we were starting to worry that it could be the end of the world for this show sooner rather than later.

However, the numbers for last Friday’s episode show that we may not have stability when it comes to the crowd watching. The episode drew a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 rating and almost 3.3 million viewers, which were both improvements over another network show in “Dog with a Blog.” We’re not an expert on Disney Channel ratings like we are with adult-geared networks, but these are pretty good numbers that are also higher on average than another original show in “Jessie.”

In the end, we assume that the show’s future will be gauged on if these figures can be maintained over the rest of the summer, and also what the expectation level is for something with this level of hype and with iconic characters on it. There may be more pressure here just because you’re dealing with Cory and Topanga.

Regardless of how the show fares for now, we’re going to have continuing coverage of everything that happens from here on out.
