‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11 spoilers: Why is Patrick Dempsey’s Derek creating tension?

With “the season of Meredith” coming up on “Grey’s Anatomy,” you would think that Derek would be doing almost everything that he can to ensure that her transition without Cristina around was an easy one.

Unfortunately, it’s not quite working out that way at all. Instead, there is tension between the two when it comes to where they want to be. Derek’s interested in relocating, while Meredith feels that her job and her career are both in Seattle. In the end, Derek’s sense of self-importance may be what ultimately complicates things even further, at least based on what executive producer Shonda Rhimes claims in a new interview with TV Guide:

“He thinks his career is more important than hers … She has kids and a husband and he has a big career and she has ambition. Suddenly, she’s found herself in the backseat.”

Do you think that Meredith is really going to be okay with being second fiddle? Well, she’s not, and you better prepare yourself now for a whole lot of story being tied into this very subject. These two have at least this full season to figure out their marital woes and possibly more, given that Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo are each signed for two years. We’ll ultimately have a bigger sense of where that stands at the midway point of the season, which is around when some of the ratings information will be available. After all, there is a new timeslot that the series has to get used to in 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
